The City of Sacramento is rolling out food waste collection beginning in July 2022. This is necessary to comply with SB 1383, a state law requiring 75% of organic waste (like food) be diverted from landfill by 2025. Reducing Sacramento’s emissions from landfilled organics is an important part of meeting our greenhouse gas reduction targets.
