2023 Annual Report: A Year in Review
Please check out this sampling of 2023 highlights! Our complete 2024 Annual Report will be available in December.
Prepared the Next Generation of Climate Justice Leaders
In 2023, more than 30 students participated in the Student Environmental Activist Training (SEAT) program. 15 participants went on to become paid interns at 350 Sacramento. Our interns have initiated projects such as the school bus and building electrification plan and the Green Schools Action Coalition (GSAC), an inter-district coalition of students, teachers, and climate activists in the Sacramento area.
Pushed for Better Climate Action Plans (CAPs)
After years of our ongoing scrutiny, analysis, engagement, and comments, the County of Sacramento is re-drafting its Climate Action Plan to address eight climate issues that we have been pushing for. We also filed a lawsuit against the City of Rancho Cordova in response to their deficient Climate Action Plan.
Helped Residents Protect Air Quality in their Homes
Our air filter project – which included construction workshops, DIY kit distribution, and community awareness events – brought air filters to more than 600 households in local areas that are most affected by pollution. Residents are using these filters to help protect their homes, health, and families by improving indoor air quality.
Hosted a Community Celebration of Arts, Culture, & the Planet
Ode to Earth 2023 – our 6th annual celebration of arts, culture, & the planet – was another smashing success! With artists from many different backgrounds and a wide variety of performance styles, this event brought the community of Sacramento together to enjoy a beautiful reminder of why climate justice and environmental work is so important.
Reported on City of Sacramento’s Climate Progress
After a comprehensive process of research and analysis, 350 Sacramento created the 2023 Climate Report Card for the City of Sacramento, which measured the city’s climate action against the Mayors’ Commission on Climate Change recommendations. The city received an overall grade of D+ for its climate action efforts. We look forward to seeing progress in 2024!
Mobilized Residents & Climate Activists to Join Demonstrations
We organized with coalition partners in Sacramento and across the region, mobilizing hundreds of people to participate in demonstrations such as It’s a Climate Emergency, Act Like It (June 10th) and the global action to End Fossil Fuels (September 17th).
